Wendy's based their position and slogan on "Old Fashioned hamburgers" and became an international chain of fast food restaurants building from one location in Columbus, Ohio.

Founded by Dave Thomas & John T. Schuessler on November 15, 1969 and then they opened a 2nd restaurant a year later that featured a drive through window. The first Wendy's franchise was sold in 1972. Wendy's went public in 1976 and that same year they open their 500th store.

Two years later in 1978 the 1,000th Wendy's opened. In 1979, Wendy's celebrates its 10th year in business and also opened its 1,500th restaurant. The new salad bar was also introduced at Wendy's restaurants. In 1981, Wendy's joined the NYSE.

In 1985 passed the 3,000th mark as they moved into the global phase. In 1992, the Dave Thomas foundation for adoption started and became the main cause at Wendy's. Dave was an orphan, so this was a personal cause he dedicated himself and his company.

In 1993, Dave Thomas earned his GED and in 1994 Wendy's turns 25. In 1997, the 5,000th Wendy's opens. Dave became the face and the spokesperson for Wendy's featured in many humorous TV and Radio commercials. In was in 2002 that Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, passed away, presenting not only an emotional lost for the chain, but also a marketing dilemma.

But Wendy's marched on. In 2003, Wendy's started to accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express to add convince for more customers. In 2004 Wendy's celebrated their 35th anniversary

In July 2005, new healthier yogurt and granola mixes were added to the menu as a part of their healthier image. In 2008, the company announced a merger with Triarc, the parent company of Arby's. Despite the new ownership, Wendy's remains headquartered in Dublin, Ohio and employs more than 46,000 people. This is all pretty amazing for a small hamburger shop created by a hard-working high school drop-out.

Most fast food restaurants have found larger volume during the summer months, although times have changed and most outlets have good traffic year round. Maybe they still look toward the past as they schedule their spots, with Cable getting more ads per month in April through August. Total spots for the last 12 months: 271,166.

Radio appears to be a little more consistent with October being the slightly higher month. Total spots for the last 12 months: 469,351.

TV shows a gradual increase in the beginning of the year, then a sharp decrease from April and May; then a jump up in June. Total spots for the last 12 months: 134,431 on TV.

TIME WARNER vs. COMCAST

Time Warner Inc. is the world's third largest media and entertainment conglomerate by market capitalization and is headquartered in the Time Warner Center in New York City.

Formerly three separate companies Warner Communications, Inc., Time Inc. and America Online, Inc. before AOL's purchase of Time Warner in 2001 which created the current Time Warner. The company has major operations in film, television, publishing, Internet service and telecommunications.

Among its subsidiaries are AOL, New Line Cinema, Time Inc., HBO, Turner Broadcasting System, The CW Television Network, TheWB.com, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Kids' WB, The CW4Kids, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, CNN, DC Comics, and Warner Bros. Games.

After the merger with AOL, the profitability of the ISP division (America Online) decreased. As a result, the value of the America Online division dropped significantly. This forced a goodwill write-off, causing AOL Time Warner to report a loss of $99 billion in 2002 - at the time, the largest loss ever reported by a company.

On January 24, 2006, CBS Corporation and Time Warner announced that they were to create a new broadcast network, The CW Television Network. The network officially debuted on September 18, 2006. This partnership continues.

On 4 February 2009, Time Warner posted a $16.03 billion loss for the final quarter of 2008, compared with a $1.03 billion profit for the same three months of 2007. The rumors of Time-Warner wanting to sell AOL come to the surface often, but as of now the most used online service for music streaming remains.

Comcast was originally formed as American Cable Systems in 1963 and was founded by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron, and Julian A. Brodsky based on a recommendation from Pete Musser, who brought the deal to Ralph Roberts to buy his first cable system in Tupelo, Mississippi. The company was incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1969, under the new name Comcast Corporation. The name "Comcast" is a portmanteau of the words "Communication" and "Broadcast."

Over a number of years, Comcast became majority owner of Comcast Spectacor, Comcast SportsNet (in Chicago, Michigan, Philadelphia, Washington DC/Baltimore, MD, the San Francisco Bay Area, the Pacific Northwest and metro Sacramento), as well as E! Entertainment Television, Style Network, G4, The Golf Channel and Versus (formerly the Outdoor Life Network). In 2006, Comcast started a new sports channel - SportsNet New York - in the greater New York City region, in partnership with the New York Mets and Time Warner Cable.

Comcast also has a variety network known as Comcast Network, available exclusively to Comcast and Cablevision subscribers. The channel shows news, sports, and entertainment and places emphasis in Philadelphia and the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. areas, though the channel is also available in New York, Pittsburgh, and Richmond. In August 2004, Comcast started a channel called CET (Comcast Entertainment Television), available only to Colorado Comcast subscribers, and focusing on Life in Colorado. It also carries some NHL & NBA Games when Altitude Sports & Entertainment is carrying the NBA or NHL. In January 2006, CET became the primary channel for Colorado's Emergency Alert System in the Denver Metro Area.

The UK division was sold to NTL in 1998. After the sale of their cellular division to SBC Communications of San Antonio and the acquisition of Greater Philadelphia Cablevision in 1999, Comcast and MediaOne announced a $60 billion merger which did not occur until three years later (as AT&T Broadband).

Presently, Comcast serves a total of 24.6 million cable customers, 16.3 million digital cable customers, 14.4 million high-speed Internet customers, and 5.6 million voice customers. The company employs over 100,000 people. Comcast is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and also has corporate offices in Atlanta, Detroit, Denver and Manchester, NH.

Comcast announced for the end of 2008 a new network congestion management technique, after receiving no complaints over the summer in five market trials which were held in Warrenton, Virginia; Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lake View, Florida; and East Orange, Florida.

As of December 3, 2009, Comcast announced that it would acquire NBC Universal to create one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. Under this arrangement, NBC Universal would be 51% owned by Comcast and 49% by GE. Comcast is to pay $6.5 billion cash to GE. Comcast will also contribute $7.5 billion in programming including regional sports networks and cable channels such as Golf Channel and E! Entertainment Television.

This deal is still being scrutinized by the government. On April 17, 2010, the FCC said it was extending the deadline to allow the companies to submit requested reports on the economic benefits of the deal and the potential impact on online video distribution.
